Quick note before we start: Grand Theft Auto VI has not been released yet. It is officially confirmed for November 19, 2026. It brings back a modern version of Vice City, along with a brand-new open world, two playable protagonists, and a single-player story that Rockstar describes as its biggest and most immersive yet.

If you're new to the series: GTA games let you freely explore a large open world, complete story missions, drive a huge range of vehicles, and get into all kinds of chaos along the way. GTA 6 is expected to take that formula further than ever before.

GTA 6 Release Date

The official release date is Thursday, November 19, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.

Getting to this date wasn't simple. Here's the timeline of announcements:

• Originally targeted for Fall 2025.

• First delayed to May 26, 2026.

• Delayed a second time to the current date: November 19, 2026.

• Take-Two has reconfirmed November 19 multiple times since, including during its fiscal Q4 earnings call in May 2026.

Rockstar has stated it needs the extra time to deliver the game at the level of polish players expect. As of this update, November 19, 2026 remains the official date but we'll update this section immediately if that changes.

Platforms Is GTA 6 Coming to PC?

GTA 6 is launching only on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. There is currently no PC release date.

This matches Rockstar's usual pattern. Both GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2 launched on consoles first, with PC versions arriving later:

• GTA V: consoles in September 2013, PC in April 2015 (about 18 months later).

• Red Dead Redemption 2: consoles in 2018, PC in 2019 (about a year later).

Important: the story, missions, and core gameplay are identical in both editions. The Ultimate Edition mainly adds cosmetic items, bonus vehicles and weapon skins, a bonus side mission, and access to five in-world shops (a hair salon, tattoo parlor, streetwear store, custom garage, and off-road mod shop). If you only care about the main story, Standard Edition gets you the same campaign.

If you buy Standard now and change your mind later, Rockstar has confirmed a separate Ultimate Edition Upgrade will be available for purchase after launch too.

Pre-Order Bonus: The Vintage Vice City Pack

Anyone who pre-orders either edition before November 19, 2026 gets the Vintage Vice City Pack for free. It's a small, 1980s-themed cosmetic bundle that includes:

• Retro outfits and hairstyles for both Jason and Lucia.

• The '55 Vapid Stanier, a classic car, plus a dedicated garage near Ocean Beach.

These USD figures move with exchange rates and aren't a promise of what you'll pay after tax Canada, for example, adds sales tax at checkout on top of the C$109.99 listed price, while many European prices already include VAT. Always check your own region's PlayStation Store or Xbox Store listing for the exact final price.

A couple of things worth knowing before you shop around:

• Cheapest in dollars isn't the same as cheapest in real terms. $63 in India or $58 in South Korea represents a bigger share of local income than $79.99 does in the US.

• Buying from a cheaper region using a VPN or a foreign store account is technically possible, but it can violate PlayStation's or Xbox's terms of service and risks account flags, payment issues, or a ban. We'd recommend buying from your own region's official store.

• The Vintage Vice City pre-order pack and 1-month GTA+ trial are included at every price point, in every region, as long as you pre-order before November 19, 2026.

Physical vs Digital Copies

If you're planning to buy a physical, boxed copy, know this in advance: physical copies do not include a disc. Both Standard and Ultimate physical editions ship with a download code inside the box instead. If you want to play on day one, you'll still need a solid internet connection to download the full game.

Digital pre-load for pre-orders begins on November 12, 2026 a week ahead of launch so the game can be ready to play the moment it unlocks.

Story and Setting (Spoiler-Free)

GTA 6 is set in the fictional U.S. state of Leonida, a Florida-inspired region built around a modern version of Vice City. Rockstar has described it as home to "neon-soaked streets... and beyond," suggesting the map extends well past the city itself into surrounding towns, coastline, and countryside.

The story follows two protagonists, Jason and Lucia, as they're pulled into the criminal underworld of Leonida. Rockstar's own tagline sums up their situation simply: the odds are stacked against them from the start. Beyond that, Rockstar has intentionally kept plot details under wraps, so we won't be guessing at spoilers here.

Main Characters

Jason: one of the two playable protagonists, navigating Leonida's criminal underworld alongside Lucia.
