Quick answer: Battle SHIRYU is an arcade action game from Japan. It launched on Steam on 27 October 2026 for Windows and macOS. You move your hand in front of an ordinary webcam, and the game uses that movement to steer a paper dragon. You hit Moai statues of the same colour to start chain explosions. A mouse works too. The launch price in India is Rs 194, with 25% off until 6 November 2026.

What is Battle SHIRYU?

Battle SHIRYU is developed by Takahiro Yonemura and published by Inazuma Inc., a company in Japan. Steam lists the genres as Action, Casual, Indie and Sports. Players have tagged it Futuristic, Arcade, Dragons, Physics and Experimental.

The game world is a paper diorama. The developer photographed real handmade paper models and then combined them with AI-assisted processing and generated assets. The result looks like a moving papercraft stage. The game belongs to a franchise called SHIRYU, and Steam sells a bundle with the earlier SHIRYU title.

Watch: 30 seconds of real play

The developer recorded this short clip to show the player's hand and the game screen together. It is the best way to understand the controls.

How the webcam hand control works

Most motion-control games need extra equipment. Battle SHIRYU does not. According to the developer, you need:

  • An ordinary webcam. Steam recommends a USB webcam for hand control.

  • Camera permission in Windows or macOS.

  • No markers, no green screen and no special backdrop.

The Steam page also says lighting and framing can change how well the game recognises your hand. So, play in a well-lit room with your hand clearly in view. If the camera does not work well for you, you can switch to the mouse at any time.

The idea is not new for the developer. According to the Steam page, Takahiro Yonemura did research on a contactless camera interface in 2002. Battle SHIRYU turns that research into a game in 2026.

Gameplay: hit the Moai, start the chain

Each stage has groups of coloured Moai statues. The rules are simple:

  • Fly the dragon into a Moai of the matching colour.

  • One correct hit can start a chain explosion through the crowd.

  • Use the dragon's long tail to line up your next strike.

  • Avoid hard Moai and other obstacles.

  • Clear the stage and move to the next era.

The journey moves through different times and places: present-day Japan, the Edo period, prehistory and one location the store page only calls mysterious. The final target is a Goddess at the end of the journey. The game uses pictograms, not text, to guide you. This means you can play it in any language.

AI-generated content: what the developer disclosed

Steam requires developers to explain any use of AI-generated content. For Battle SHIRYU, the disclosure says:

  • Some visual assets and prerecorded animation sequences were made with generative AI tools.

  • The developer selected and edited these assets.

  • The game does not generate content while you play.

  • The game does not connect to outside AI services.

In simple terms: AI was a production tool. The game itself runs offline, and your webcam images are not sent to an AI service, according to the disclosure.
